Clay Tempered Full Tang Shinken (真剣) | Black Wave Katana: TangGu (湯谷) Maru Blade (丸造) + TangGu (湯谷) Kuronami Koshirae (黒浪拵)
This katana is hand-forged (Tezukuri / 手作り) from high-carbon modern steel (高炭素現代鋼) in the Maru-zukuri (丸造) construction style. The blade is clay-tempered (yaki-ire / 焼入れ) to produce a gunome hamon (互の目刃文). The koshirae features a mokko-gata tsuba (木瓜形鍔) forged from tetsu (鉄地, iron) with a blackened finish (煮黒) and an openwork ocean wave motif (透かし波). The fuchi-kashira (縁頭) are made of hakudō (白銅), blackened (煮黒), and engraved with wave motifs (波紋). The habaki (鎺) is made of suaka (素赤銅), while the menuki (目貫) are hakudō (白銅), blackened, and shaped in a wave design (波模様). The tsuka is wrapped in brown ito (茶色柄糸) over natural samegawa (鮫皮) with hishigami (菱紙) forming a precise diamond pattern (菱組). The saya is finished in a glossy black lacquer (黒光沢塗り鞘), providing a smooth and reflective surface. The sageo (下緒) is brown (茶色下緒), tightly woven for durability.

By placing an order for a katana or sword, customers confirm that they are over 18 years of age and are fully aware of all applicable local, state, and federal laws regarding the possession and carrying of the products they are purchasing. Customers are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and legislation. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Swordsmith Australia shall not be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, fines, or legal risks—whether incurred directly or indirectly—arising from the purchase, use, storage, or delivery of our products, or from any failure to provide legal guidance.
A Japanese sword is a single-edged curved blade, designed specifically for cutting (slashing) and is not suitable for chopping hard objects. Our sharpened swords are only suitable for cutting practice on tatami mats (straw mat material). Handle the blade with care and maintain a sense of respect for it. Striking at an incorrect angle, hitting excessively hard targets, or applying too much force may cause the blade to bend, chip, or break. The user assumes all risks and should purchase with caution, ensuring proper use in a safe environment to prevent damage or accidents. Please search for relevant information to learn more about the associated risks.
A Japanese sword should always be kept in its scabbard (Saya) and stored horizontally on a dedicated sword rack, cabinet, or a locked display case. Avoid placing it casually on a table or the floor, and do not allow children or inexperienced individuals to handle the sword. Regularly check the sword and scabbard for moisture and dryness, and apply a light layer of oil (such as mineral oil) on the blade as needed to prevent rust.
