Sword Legal Statement

Legal Disclaimer and Compliance Notice

By placing a sword order with TangGu Sword, customers confirm that they are over 18 years of age and fully aware of all applicable local, state, and federal laws regarding the possession, purchase, and carrying of the products they are ordering. Customers are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. TangGu Sword does not guarantee that any individual or entity may legally purchase, possess, sell, or carry any of the items offered under applicable laws.

A Japanese sword is a single-edged curved blade, designed specifically for cutting (slashing) and is not suitable for chopping hard objects. Our sharpened swords are only suitable for cutting practice on tatami mats (straw mat material). Handle the blade with care and maintain a sense of respect for it. Striking at an incorrect angle, hitting excessively hard targets, or applying too much force may cause the blade to bend, chip, or break. The user assumes all risks and should purchase with caution, ensuring proper use in a safe environment to prevent damage or accidents. Please search for relevant information to learn more about the associated risks.

A Japanese sword should always be kept in its scabbard (Saya) and stored horizontally on a dedicated sword rack, cabinet, or a locked display case. Avoid placing it casually on a table or the floor, and do not allow children or inexperienced individuals to handle the sword. Regularly check the sword and scabbard for moisture and dryness, and apply a light layer of oil (such as mineral oil) on the blade as needed to prevent rust.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TangGu Sword shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, fines, or legal risks—whether incurred directly or indirectly—arising from the purchase, use, storage, or delivery of our products, or from any failure to advise customers of applicable legal requirements. Depending on your jurisdiction, a permit or license may be required to own or purchase a sword. TangGu Sword cannot be held responsible for any breach of laws or enforcement action taken by authorities.

When you place an order on our website, it constitutes a binding agreement between you and TangGu Sword. In accordance with Australian legislation, you must be at least 18 years of age to enter into a legally enforceable contract. We may request that you scan or photograph a valid photo ID and email it to us to confirm your age before we can process and ship your order. This information will only be used to verify age for this transaction. If you are concerned about sharing sensitive information, you may obscure unrelated details before sending. Please note that a transaction fee may apply if a refund is requested due to failure to meet these requirements.

Please note: Requirements related to ID and permits apply only to customers with a shipping address in Australia. Customers in other countries (such as the United States) are not required to meet these requirements.

State-Specific Requirements (Australia):

  • Victoria: Customers must hold a Prohibited Weapons Permit or an exemption (e.g., membership in a Collectors’ Organisation) to purchase a sword. Please provide a scanned copy of your permit/membership card and a valid photo ID to proceed with your order.

  • South Australia: Customers must confirm they qualify as an exempt person (e.g., a “Collector”) before purchasing a sword.

As state laws and regulations may change, we are unable to provide legal advice or guarantee the current legal status of any item in every jurisdiction. We strongly recommend contacting your local State Police Department for up-to-date guidance regarding the ownership and purchase of swords in your area.

Please review the laws and regulations in your jurisdiction before placing an order.
