This handcrafted saya features a Kuro-ishime-nuri (黒石目塗) finish—a deep black lacquer surface textured with fine, stone-like granules. The ishime technique produces a subtle, matte appearance that highlights durability and quiet sophistication, offering a restrained alternative to high-gloss lacquer styles. The rich black tone enhances a sense of strength and formality while preserving the refined aesthetics of traditional craftsmanship.

The koiguchi (mouth), kurigata (cord knob), and kojiri (end cap) are made from polished natural horn, providing both structural integrity and organic beauty.
